Roccia Il Fungo

Description

Nel cuore di Arzachena si trova "Il Fungo", una curiosa roccia dalla caratteristica forma a ombrello che poggia su una grossa conformazione granitica tondeggiante, la cui sommità offre al visitatore un'ampia e suggestiva visuale sul territorio circostante. Il monumento naturale, chiamato "Monti Incappiddhatu" dalla comunità locale, rappresenta il simbolo del paese e un importante sito archeologico.

Il luogo è stato frequentato per un lungo arco cronologico che va dalla fine del V millennio al IX secolo avanti Cristo. Le tracce più antiche della presenza umana sono costituite dalle testimonianze di vita quotidiana di 6000 anni fa; durante le ricerche archeologiche sono stati ritrovati frammenti ceramici, oggetti litici e resti di pasto. Le prime comunità neolitiche abitavano lungo le pendici del grande masso granitico, nei numerosi anfratti naturali purtroppo cancellati da interventi di estrazione effettuati negli anni Cinquanta.

La frequentazione del sito si è protratta anche nell'età del Bronzo; durante l'epoca nuragica è stato realizzato un grosso muro a blocchi per chiudere lo spazio sotto il cappello e renderlo più confortevole e riparato. Secondo fonti orali e alcuni cenni bibliografici, un esteso villaggio di capanne circolari, oggi distrutto, si estendeva ai piedi del monumento.

Allo stesso periodo sarebbero da ascrivere anche i circoli di tipo B (strutture di presunta funzione cultuale) nelle immediate vicinanze, segnalati tra gli anni '40 e '60.

Nice view, there is a walkway and some steps to reach the place, albeit there seems to be no dedicate parking, but one can find parking place on the nearby residential streets, some of which are steep(ish) and not wide.

Unbelievable to see stone huge like that standing and have it curved over your head. It is awesome and totally worth the visit once you're visiting Arzachena

Visited Arzachena for a morning wander. After looking at a few shops and stoping for a coffee we were recommended to call at this remarkable spot. You can park in the street nearby and then walk up to the rock formation and stand under the ‘mushroom’. It is quite striking up close and there are good views of the surrounding countryside
